Fuel Filter Replacement

You should replace the fuel filter on your Z every 30,000 miles or 2 years. A clogged fuel filter can result in lost power and lower fuel economy.

Equipment Needed:

Procedure:

  1. Start the engine and let it idle.
  2. Remove the floormat from the hatch area (where the toolkit is located).
  3. Disconnect the blue wiring harness, this will cut off the fuel pump (the car will stall).
  4. Try to start the car a few times to remove any remaining fuel pressure.
  5. Turn off the car.
  6. The fuel filter is located on the passenger side of the engine.
  7. Loosen the fuel hose clamps (2) and the filter retaining clamp screw.
  8. Make sure you note the flow direction of the old filter before removing it (fuel goes in the bottom and out the top).
  9. Wrap a rag around the filter to absorb any remaing fuel.
  10. Hold the filter with one hand and remove the hoses starting with the top hose with the other.
  11. To remove the filter pull it out of the retaining clamp.
  12. Insert the new filter making sure to note the proper flow direction (Out should be up).
  13. Reconnect the hoses starting with the bottom one. Make sure to tighten the hose clamps sufficiently.
  14. Complete the job by tightening the clamp around the filter.

NOTE: After you have replaced the fuel filter, start the car and look for any leaks. If there are none, proceed to drive the car a short distance and then look for leaks again.
